Finally reading the first 72 pages of The Tale of the Body Thief. My first copy was missing them... It's taking me longer than it should.

  1. Lestat is computer savvy

  2. "Lest their radiance mesmerize and entrance at random" - about his eyes and why he has to wear sunglasses

  3. "Sometimes I become spellbound in the middle of Walmart" - about modern life

  4. "How could anyone ever trust Cary Grant, I wondered -- a man who looked as though he were made entirely of wood?" - about the movie Suspicion (1941)

  5. The old woman was very interesting.

  6. The Thing on the Doorstep by HP Lovecraft

My main book is The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood. I have seven of her books, this is the first one I'm reading. But I already love her from interviews. Unfortunately, I haven't had much time to focus on it. Here are things that The Forest of Hands and Teeth has in common with it:

  1. Set in the future

  2. Main character has to give up dreams to be a babymaker

  3. Aunts/Sisters

  4. Guards/Guardians

  5. Rugs made of braided rags

Fifty Shades Darker by EL James. Agh. I know I shouldn't take them seriously, but fuck it.

  1. I thought that Ana would have a couple of chapters without Christian, but they get back together within the first fucking chapter! And he's horrible and controlling right from the start!

  2. Ana's "inner goddess" has returned, but her subconcious has not. Maybe James figured out she should have been using conscience instead.

  3. I don't think James has a knack for American English. Some of the things Ana and Christian say or think seem off.

  4. Why can't Ana have one platonic relationship with a dude? Ugh.

  5. Christian says some poetic shit one minute and then "Laters, baby" the next.

  6. It is kind of painful to read Christian making her feel like shit for forgetting the safe word.

  7. I wrote down "Patrick Bateman" in my notes, but can't remember what I wanted to write.

  8. Ella Fitzgerald - This Thing Called Love

  9. "Put the chicken in the fridge". I have Silence of the Lambs on my mind, so it's more like "IT PUTS THE CHICKEN IN THE FRIDGE!"

I hate that FSD gets the most notes. Actually, I think it's difficult for me to say anything about books I like. That's why some of the books in my October list weren't mentioned anywhere else, even though I loved them.
